THE GAME PLAN

Pastor’s Introduction.

The world's most successful sports franchises build winning teams by bringing together gifted athletes and directing their combined energy toward victory in the biggest games. Recently, the Los Angeles Dodgers won back-to-back World Series by leveraging the other-worldly skills of Shohei Ohtani, Freddy Freeman, and a roster full of stars. The New England Patriots built a team around Tom Brady and brought home six Super Bowl rings. (Brady got a seventh with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers). Michael Jordan led the Chicago Bulls to six NBA titles in the '90s, and each of their three-peats required just the right combination of talent.
When it comes to the mission entrusted to us at Balboa, we're not left on our own to assemble a star-studded team. Instead, Scripture tells us that the Lord has already given us everything we need to complete the work he's called us to do. Every member of our church family has received spiritual gifts to "build the body" and further the gospel. This Fall, I want to challenge you to get off the bench and "Get in the Game" by discovering the gifts entrusted to you and putting them to work as we engage people to find and follow Jesus!

Serving the Church and others comes easy for me. Our Lord and Savior came not to be served, but to serve. And serve he did, even unto giving Himself for our salvation. The first truth I learned upon accepting His gift of Salvation, was John 3:30. "He must increase and I must decrease." As I have surrendered more to him, the more He allows me to serve Him and Others. You might say, it's like one of my favorite Gaither songs.  "THE LONGER I SERVE HIM, THE SWEETER HE GROWS."

Derrell N.

Joy comes from living in the service the Master calls us to do. In the words of Corrie ten Boom "not I but Christ."
